With its lavish proportions and signature headrest that can be folded up or down, the legendary Maralunga sofa is the epitome of made-in-Italy industrial craftsmanship.

The Maralunga sofa designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina remains an iconic piece since it was first created in 1973. In the exhibition ‘Vico Magistretti. Architetto milanese’ that pays tribute to the designer, Vico Magistretti, Marulunga enchants design aficionados once again with its remarkable design and timeless aesthetics.

“In the 1970s, Vico Magistretti completed one of his most renowned models, an acclaimed winner of the Compasso d’Oro award,” Cassina says. “The Maralunga sofa immediately made its mark as a product with great strength and impact on the international market.”

A bestseller within Cassina’s collection, Maralunga offers more than just lounging comfort. Its deep, plush seat with generous proportions and soft padding envelops you in a cosy embrace against accessory down-filled lumbar cushions for an ergonomic boost. One of its defining features is its headrest. Extending from the back, the headrest can be adjusted from high to low, thanks to a concealed mechanism developed from a simple bicycle chain.

The Maralunga family includes an armchair, a footrest and two- or three-seater sofas in several widths. In 2014, Cassina presented a reedition of the sofa in conjunction with Maralunga’s fortieth anniversary. Maralunga was restyled with additional details, including edge-stitching for a more contemporary look.
