Sofitel Cotonou Marina blends refined French art de vivre with the cultural richness of Benin, shaping a contemporary sanctuary where craftsmanship, comfort and identity merge in graceful harmony.
In the luxury hotel interiors of Sofitel Cotonou, the French philosophy of art de vivre meets the rich cultural identity of Benin in a beautifully modern dialogue. Thoughtfully woven design elements bring the Sofitel brand’s ideology to life, offering guests a heightened sense of privilege and refined comfort from the moment they arrive.

In the lobby, French elegance is expressed through a classic symmetrical layout, while Benin’s spirit emerges through striking local details. Wooden tables, floor lamps, ornamented carpets, textured rugs, bold pillows and floor patterns celebrate the region’s artistry. The palette blends timeless French white with warm tones inspired by Benin’s savannah landscapes, traditional attire and enduring architectural forms.
The central volume, formed by columns wrapped with decorative bookshelf partitions, fulfils multiple roles. It creates a powerful first impression, highlights the building’s architectural rhythm across two levels, and subtly defines the spatial flow by partially concealing the bar while keeping it visible from the entrance, elevators and restaurant. By night, the lobby comes alive with captivating layers: classic French plasterwork, floral references to the nearby botanical garden, Beninese masks and prints, and artworks framed with elegance. Sculptural light traces its way through the shelves and cascades over the bar. A water feature at the entrance recalls the Cotonou canal and the vast Atlantic shoreline.

The rooms blend refined French classical architecture with contemporary furniture in soft tones, natural materials and thoughtful luxurious accents. Travertine floor parquet echoes both French tradition and the zigzag motifs of African ornament. Ethnic expressions appear in subtle touches to maintain a calm atmosphere for rest: an energetic African pattern revealed only when the cabinet door opens, distinctive wardrobe handles, and lighting inspired by the lanterns of Paris during the reign of Louis XIV, when lamplighters illuminated the city streets to create a safe, glowing evening ambience.
By shifting the round bar, Sundukovy Sisters created a central focal point visible from every direction within the lobby and restaurant. The seating area incorporates soft, inviting furniture, gentle accent lighting and layered rugs, all contributing to a welcoming living room character that enhances guest comfort.

In the restaurant, the designers shaped an atmosphere that is relaxed, warm and subtly indulgent, capturing the essence of French pleasure: good food, great wine and meaningful company. Soft seating invites long conversations, while tall palms define intimate zones. An open kitchen allows guests to witness the artistry and passion behind French culinary craft.
In the rooms of Sofitel, guests are welcomed into a serene environment shaped by noble materials and refined simplicity. The bathroom enhances this sense of escape, offering a spa like feel and refreshing sensory moments that elevate the overall experience. Sundukovy Sisters translated the exquisite sensibility of French interiors into a vision enriched by Beninese culture, offering guests a new and sophisticated expression of enjoyment, daily indulgence and the gentle pleasure of living well.
